Applies to: All WSL

Managing your career and employment

Your employment agreement

Every Team Member will have an employment agreement which sets out the terms of employment agreed to between Warehouse Stationery and you at the time of your recruitment or any subsequent changes to your employment with us. If there is any conflict between this handbook, other employment guidelines and your employment agreement, your employment agreement and related employment law stands.

The types of agreement include permanent full time and part time agreements, and fixed term and casual agreements.

From time to time, we will engage contractors and consultants.

Refer to your employment agreement.

A note on work eligibility

You are responsible for ensuring you are eligible to work and that you share any work permit details with us upon your recruitment. If any conditions on your work permit change, you are required to let us know so that we can endeavor to accommodate those changes.

A note on flexible working arrangements

We seek to accommodate flexible working arrangements for our Team Members on a case by case basis. These arrangements can be made informally between you and your Manager or formally by applying under the Flexible Working Arrangements Act. Please discuss with your Manager any flexible working needs you have. To follow the formal process, please refer to inSite for the process or ask your Manager for help.

Refer to our Flexible Working Arrangements SOP and forms on inSite or check with your Manager

Your work tasks, objectives and reviews

It is important that you know what is required of you in your role and how you are performing.  Every Team Member will have a:

  • Job Description (JD) which will describe tasks and duties.  It is anticipated that your JD will evolve and change depending on your role.
  • Objectives which will detail clear goals, measurements of success and levels of performance relative to being “on target” or above
  • Regular reviews with your Manager to discuss your tasks, success against your objectives and opportunities to improve. These should happen monthly and also formally every 6 to 12 months depending on your role.

Refer to your Job Description and objectives. Also refer to our Performance Review SOPs and forms on inSite or check with your Manager.

Accessing learning and development opportunities

We have well defined learning pathways here and we provide many opportunities for you to learn about and up skill in your role or to prepare for your next role with us. Depending on your role, these opportunities are a mix of on the job learning modules and coaching, training courses, work assignments, secondments and membership of a relevant association.

We encourage you to take advantage of learning and development opportunities to further your career with us - so can become a master in your role or step into another role with us.

You and your Manager will discuss your development, determining the opportunities for you. You are responsible for making the most of the opportunities available, and your manager will support you to achieve your goals.

Refer to our Learning SOPs, My Plan to Be the Best I Can Be, learning modules and course calendars on inSite or check with your Manager

A note on pay for waged Team Members when travelling away for training

If you are a waged Team Member and you attend a training session with us, you will be paid:

  • your normal rostered hours on the training days and any training hours additional to this and also any additional travel time (less your normal travel time to and from work) and
  • any use of your personal vehicle to travel to and from the training (for the distance over and above getting to and from your normal place of work).

Refer to our Travel Expenses policy towards the end of this Handbook for information on claiming mileage and other costs

A note on our Study Sponsorship Programme

We offer a programme which provides financial assistance for you to attend a business related tertiary level course. You need to be a permanent Team Member, working here for at least one year and working at least 20 hours a week; also, the study must be in line with your likely career development or possible future roles with us. The level of sponsorship is divided into two areas – financial and time, with the amount of each will be tailored to each case.

Awarding any assistance will be at the joint discretion of your Manager and People Support.  Because of the significant investment by us in you, should you fail or withdraw from a paper you may be required to reimburse the cost of that paper, and, should you pass your papers, you may be required to fulfil a bonded period.

Refer to our Study Sponsorship Programme and forms on inSite or check with your Manager

Your next career step could be within your specialty, cross functionally into another department, another location or within The Warehouse group of companies.

For other Team Members, we will endeavour to roster similar hours however this may entail a change of duties or days/times/hours of work. When a replacement store is planned, there will be consultation.
